A sailboat that I made, in part for 3MetaD, took me 23.7 hours. This includes all modeling, unwrapping, modifying for 3 levels of LODs, texturing in Substance Painter, and rendering in Unreal.
This was the main reference given to me by 3MetaD. From there I was instructed to make a sailboat as I pleased, using the various images from here as a general point of reference to what they were looking for.
For all the following images, I put them in a Photoshop file and aligned them in such a way that they would be proportional and work as square image planes in Maya.
For the front view, I had to find references on my own. I landed on this sketch. While it is not high quality, it helps get the point across.
This side view was taken directly from the base reference and played a major part in sizing the Hull and Sails/mast.
This top view too was taken from the base reference, though played a rather small part beyond shaping the Hull.
This image was the most important in making my Sailboat. This reference was used directly as the type of sailboat I wanted to make. I found it and the image to the top right of the base reference to have the most detail. With it I was able to research and discover so many new details that I had never thought to model on a boat before.
